Logic Links

I just took a look at the class netvibes page and I see that almost everybody posted this week - yay! But some people didn't - boo! Being an optimistic sort of person, I remain hopeful that everyone will post something by next Friday. Really - I truly believe that.

Since we're talking about reason and logic, I thought I'd add a couple of logic links.

• Here Be Dragons - web site with the video we saw. You can download it and show it to your whole family. Throw in some pizza and Wii bowling - you got a whole family night of fun in one tidy little package.

Additions to course site

I'm in the processing of adding some more things to the course web site. First and foremost is the summary of my blog similar to the the summary for your blogs, except that mine looks snazzier. No sense being the teacher if you can't have the coolest looking widget on the course page.

I'm also hoping to put in some links to the Theory of Knowledge related pages I find on the intar-webs. Perhaps I'll teach you all how to do something similar then we could combine all our links into one link überlist. And if I find anything else that I think might help us in our quest for truth and knowledge, I'll add that too. As I've pointed out, being in charge means you get to add cool (or my opinion of such) things to the site

Chatting with Dave and René Descartes

I'm very much looking forward to watching the discussion between David Hume and René Descartes in our next class, as I'm sure you are also looking forward to it. Well, if you keep saying that you are looking forward to it, maybe you'll start to believe it.

Anyhoo - I said I would provide a marking guide for you, so here it is:

• 2 points - role-playing. How well are you taking on the persona of Hume, Descartes or the moderator/host.
• 4 points - your notes. I'll have you hand these in at the end of class. I'm not looking for any sort of report on their philosophy, but I do want to see that you've made some good jot notes and organized them logically.
• 4 points - engagement. Are you listening to the rest of the conversation and responding to it as you would in a regular conversation?

I'm hoping that you'll not only learn a bit about the empirical and rational views of knowledge

but you'll also have some fun doing it.
